Kuramo Foundation for Sustainable Development - reshaping Africa's financial landscape through inclusive innovation

The problem?

Africa’s financial landscape is marked by inequality, particularly among underserved groups such as women, youth, and MSMEs. These groups face significant barriers to access capital, resources, and opportunities that would allow them to thrive. At Kuramo Foundation, we work to break down these systemic barriers by implementing strategic initiatives that promote inclusive growth and sustainable development.

Our Programs

Our work is brought to life through impactful programs designed to drive sustainable change. From the Moremi Accelerator Program to Innovative Financing Products like the Moremi Working Capital Facility – we provide capacity building, unlock catalytic capital, and essential resources for underserved groups, gender-smart investment vehicles and entrepreneurs. Our programs are designed to create long-lasting impact, with a focus on education, financial inclusion, gender equality, and climate action.

Moremi Accelerator Program

A dedicated training program focused on providing institutionalized training through a structured curriculum, technical assistance and mentoring for early stage and emerging female-led and gender-smart fund managers.

Moremi Working Capital Facility

An innovative capital solution aimed at removing the financial barriers for first-time and emerging female fund managers in Africa. The facility provides flexible working capital to cover pre-close expenses, enabling fund managers to set up and operate effectively while building a track record to attract additional investment.

Women Enterprise Acceleration Vehicle (WEAV)

Our strategic coalition platform designed to scale high-potential, female-led and gender-smart investment vehicles into fully institutionalized asset managers. WEAV offers advanced, demand-driven technical assistance, preferential access to networks, and immersive learning pathways—supporting fund managers as they transition into resilient, locally-rooted vehicles capable of mobilizing inclusive capital at scale.

Sankara Growth Lab

A first-of-its-kind incubator for MSME-focused investment vehicles, the Sankara Growth Lab supports locally-led and alternative investment vehicles to design, test and scale innovative financing models that serve small businesses and integrate Global South capital markets

Gender-lens Investing Initiative

Our innovative and platform approach to closing the gender-finance gap and nurturing women-led and gender-diverse funds. Our GLI initiative such as the Moremi accelerator and Moremi Bridge facilities unlock opportunities for women-led and gender-smart investment vehicles, bridging access to structural barriers for their fund success, directly driving access to capital to women-led entrepreneurs.

Ecosystem Building at KFSD

A thriving ecosystem is crucial for sustainable economic growth. Our Ecosystem Building initiatives create and strengthen networks that facilitate collaboration across various sectors. By bringing together investors, entrepreneurs, and service providers, we foster partnerships that create opportunities and drive impact at scale.

Our Policy advocacy & Research efforts focus on driving systemic change by informing policy decisions and advocating for frameworks that empower underserved groups. Through data-driven research and strategic advocacy, we aim to create policies that foster equitable access to financial resources, encourage investment, and support long-term economic prosperity.
